Grower: late summer or early autumn blooming season starts, but Pleiospilos nelii flowers in winter and other species in autumn, frost hardy

Light: full sun to light shade

Water: becomes dormant in hot weather, little water is needed in the growing season, will not flower if kept too dry

Soil type: well-draining succulent growing medium

 

ORIGIN / HISTORY

  • The little Karoo, on the border of the Eastern and Western Cape to the southern parts of the Great Karoo in the Northern Cape, South Africa
  • Plants occur in shale or sandstone areas
  • Also listed as near threatened due to over-collection by succulent lovers in the wild
  • The name is derived from the Greek words pleios (full) and spilos (dots) and refers to the small dots on the plant
