What is the best soil to use for my succulents?

Succulents are mostly more drought tolerant, growing medium should be porous, well-draining and containing a low % of organic matter. Loose friable course sandy medium.

How often should I water my succulents?

In the growing season, water well at least once or twice a week, but your medium should be dry before the next watering session. Out of the growing season, occasional light watering is needed.

When do I need to repot my succulents?

As soon as the plant overgrow the edges of the current pot size, always go to next pot size.

What is the best type and size of pot to use for my succulent?

The plant size estimates the pot size, never plant a small succulent in an oversized pot.

Do succulents need fertiliser?

Once per month within growing season half strength fertilizer, succulents do not perform well when there is salt build up.

What causes succulents to rot?

Overwatering, which cannot be reversed, due to water logged growing medium. A suitable growing medium is essential.

Should I position my succulents in shade or full sun?

Most succulents and cacti prefer at least 3 to 6 hours of high light or sunlight per day. One should check the country of origin of the plant.

Are succulents poisonous to humans, pets and birds?

Crassula, Kalanchoe, Senecio (Curio), Cotyledon, Euphorbia and sub-families, Sansevieria, etc. can be toxic when consumed by animals. Some succulents, like Euphorbia, contain a milky sap (latex) causing irritation on the skin and even blindness if it gets into the human eye.

When is the best time to prune my succulents?

When the specific plant becomes too tall and out of shape.

Are succulents easy to propagate?

Certain genus and species are propagated via leaflets or offspring, other genus and species are better propagated via seed.

What are the most common pests to succulents?

Woolly lice (such as Mealybugs), scale insects and mites.

What causes my succulent to grow out of shape?

Incorrect light causes etiolation, meaning the colour and compactness become lost due to the incorrect light.
