  • this species is endemic to Mexico (Oaxaca, Puebla), xerophyllus scrub, open Quercus forest and grasslands on lava soil.
  • slow growing species which become more beautiful with age, which can be from 8 – 12 years.
  • propagation via seeds. On the apex (on the flattened tuberculate body) tawny wool will form
  • it can tolerate short periods of -5 degrees Celsius.
  • “retusa” means  flattened (retuse) tips on its tubercles.
  • prefers slight shade, avoid harsh direct sun exposure.
