Coryphantha

Coryphantha, from the Greek means “flowering on top” or beehive cactus. This genus consists of two subgenera, 57 species and 20 subspecies. Geographically, Coryphantha occurs in arid regions in South America and northern Mexico. This genus has larger, mostly yellow flowers compared with smaller more often pink flowers of the other related genera. Coryphantha are quite variable from small seedlings to mature age plants. At one stage Coryphantha was included in the genus Mammillaria.
