Brazilian species, border area to Uruguay
Reported in only a very small area, east of Porto Murtino, in the Brazilian forest bordering Paraguay
It grows at low altitudes on rock formations
250m-300m above sea level.
The species name is an accepted name of an infraspecific taxon of the species Gymnocalycium (family Cactaceae)
