  • parent species: the species (Crassula rupestris) is native to the hot, rocky, arid regions of Namibia and the Cape Provinces of Southern Africa.
  • Tom Thumb” creation: original non-variegated “Tom Thumb” was  a chance hybrid created by W.J. Ruysch in the Netherlands. Crassula rupestris subsp. rupestris x Crassula rupestris subsp. marnieriana.
  • the variegated cultivar (commonly marketed under the name  Crassula ‘Pastel’) is a natural genetic mutation of the original hybrid.
  • it is highly prized for the creamy yellow margins on a tightly stacked ‘sosatie/kebab’, mint-green leaves.
  • well-draining substrate/growing medium, water well in warmer months once per week, winter minimize.
  • medium sun exposure, to high light conditions, and aeration.
