ORIGIN / HISTORY

  • Genus name is derived from the Greek words trix (hair) and diadema (crown), referring to the characteristic tuft of bristles borne on the tips of the leaves
  • Habitat is more arid areas of southern Africa, southern Namibia, the Richtersveld, Bushmanland and the Great and Little Karoo
  • Mesembryanthemum bulbosum by Adrian Hardy Haworth
  • It was given the name Trichodiadema bulbosum by Martin Heinrich Gustav Schwantes in 1926, currently the accepted name
